Al Petri and Sons kustom bicycle show, recently held at the 2006 Detroit "Autorama", proved again that the Midwest has some of the finest show bikes found anywhere in North America.
The Detroit Autorama show is possibly the only venue that has consistently displayed kustom bicycles under its roof (every year) since the 1960's! Don and Deb VanCleave, proprietors of "Al Petri and Sons" bike shop in nearby Lincoln Park, organize the Autorama bicycle exhibit. 2006 is the 10th year running for "Petri and Sons" to sponsor the event, and a well-planned and amazing show it was!
Quality and innovation again made the bikes at this years show incredible! The "lowrider" style still remains popular, alongside the large and growing number of newer chopper and cruiser style machines!
If this years "Petri and Son's" bike show is any kind of future indicator for the scene, then, we have a lot of great things to look forward to! If you're into kustom bicycle competition, what better venue could you find to display your bike? And what prize could be more coveted than to win one of the Petri & Sons Autorama "Best In Show" awards? Can't think of any? Neither can I! Enjoy. John Brain
