Detroit's largest kustom bicycle show again displayed a fantastic selection of pedal-powered creations! This is the 9th annual installment of the show sponsored by Al Petri's bike shop in nearby Lincoln Park. When the Al Petri Bike show started 9 years ago, it was primarily a showcase for lowrider bikes. This is certainly not the case anymore. Petri's show has evolved into an "all inclusive" bicycle exhibit featuring a wide range of kustom styles. Most evident of this change were the large number of choppers entered in this year's competition. A few exhibitors told me that there didn't seem to be quite as much interest in the building of lowriders as there once was. The wide range of bike styles displayed this year seems to bear this out. Al Petri's Bike Show at the Detroit Autorama is truly the finest exhibit of its type in the Midwest, for bicycles of every kustom persuasion! John Brain |
