Mark Kobar: Miles Walters SE Boxer, Blue Flame Cruiser |
I've been riding incessantly for 20 years now. I've also dedicated myself to RIDING ONLY, no driving if I can help it. I put around 2-3 thousand miles a year on my bikes. . I built this bike for a friend of mine's grandson. It started out as a donated late model Huffy Causeway 7-sp. After living its life with me as my inclement-weather cruiser (read "riding through the hurrican debris"), it was then mated with the new fenders, springer, etc. for mock-up. Everything was then sandblasted, stripped and drilled. Ralph at Auto Acrylics layed down the 2005 Lamborghini Orange paint. Custom personalized accents were applied and cleared over, including the 2-tone chainring). Handcut leather tabs and togs were cut and punched for the chrome |

trim and cable-wraps (and for the paint-saving, springer-safe leather band at the headtube), and all was assembled. Also added custom poished aluminum headbadge. Original equipment remaining was the frame, crank, seatpost, chainring and the rear derailuer/wheel & cog. Shipped it out to Whichita, Kansas for Xmas. Grandpa loved it! |
So did Miles. I have others in the works, too, focussing mainly on the old cantilever frames and standard rakes and wheelbases. Nothing like the classics.
Huffy Blue Flame pics coming next. And help fight adolescent obesity: BUY A KID A BIKE! Ride On!!! |
Jim, here's the second set. It's not a wild, but a classic style cantilever. |
Huffy Blue Flame. This, my daily-rider, started out again as a donated beater. Paint hasn't been touched (hate to get rid of original laquer), but soon will get a nice candy-metallic blue. This bike wasn't made to be so wild as it was to be a comfortable (note the rear shock-sissy and comfy seat) and good-looking. The biggest custom feature on the Blue Flame are the hand-hammered, embossed polished aluminum tank panels. I think the contrast of blue-to-chrome all around is beautiful. Nothing all that fancy, just about perfect. . This great old Huffy has taken me about 2,500 miles a year down here in sunny (and sometimes windy) Florida for the last 4 years with no moans or groans about it. Now that she's all re-bearinged and rounded out, I guess I'll aim for 10,000 more! . Fight Foreign Oil! Ride a Bike! See y'all! MK |
