Hi all, I was just browsing around for wooden bicycles, and I was surprised to find a lot of sites. Yours is excellent and I will check it regularly for ideas.
I send you some pics of my custom bike, a wooden bicycle made of oak for the handlebars and the fork, mahogany and pine for the frame and seat, aluminium for the mudguards and bolting plates. All pieces are handmade except the moving parts (crank, wheels, direction) that I cut off from scrap bicycles or motorcycles found in scrap yards, and laminated into the wood. It is held together with sturdy bolts. A single speed, it weighs over 50 pounds but goes nicely. I added a retro aluminium light for the look, and some horns for the fun. This was done in a hurry, over 10 days. My next project is a full custom aluminium bicycle, carved from aluminium plates rather than tubes For your info, I made a website of my design stuff at http://dzahine.trashzen.com and another one about my current hobby, trials riding, at |

Hi, my name is Howard Hung, and I am an art student at UCSB. I made a wooden frame to create my own chopper lowrider. I call it mi Nueva Vieja. The frame is made out of laminated wood and the seat is carved out of the same type of wood. This is still in progress. I am still working on maybe wood rims and fenders. The bike actually supports riders up to 230 pounds. And it rides pretty smoothly because of the long wheelbase. Just thought you would enjoy it. |
Hey folks, I`ve seen your site and wondered if you like to link to mine or take an image to yours. |
Now there is one woodbike more in the world.
This single speed MTB is made of compression-dried birch.
By using the patented compression quality drying technology, the wood will obtain new great properties. This drying technology keeps the wood straight, provides more density and hardness. The wood can be dried in this quick process without typical colour changes. When needed, the lumber can be thermo-treated and compressed in the same process. Joni Kauppinen |

Hi! My wooden bikes for your beautiful gallery, if you want them? I'm a 40-year-old mechanical engineer. I work in the National museum of Slovenia, as a conservator for metal (arms and armour). Until now, I've made one wooden canoe and three wooden kayaks, Woo is my first wooden bike. May 2002 was its first time on the street. I'm working on another one now. I ride my wooden bike every day from my home to the museum and back. It is about 4 miles. In the last two years I've built another two wooden bikes, Woo 2 (Above) and Woo 3. (Below).

Evolved through a request by a local forestry commision to display some of my furniture on their open day {I'm a cabinet maker.} As they have a new cycle path going through their village I thought I'd combine the two themes, hence a red pine bicycle !! All mechanics are new and were supplied and fitted by my local cycle shop owner and good friend, so far!! This bike is a joy to ride and handles like a really high-quality cycle, which is quite amazing, considering how little time was spent in its design and build!! Igor Ravbar |

Anyone who's spent much time around BR&K is probably aware that we're total suckers for wooden bikes. Maybe it's because the Wizard Bros.were fathered by a guy who became a master wood worker, so we really learned to appreciate the engineering properties of wood and the beauty of well-crafted wooden devices. This is one of the cleverest applications of laminated wood to the bicycle form we've seen yet. Igor's craftsmanship speaks for itself. Check out the wooden saddle- way hard-core! And how about that streamlined rear carrier? Bravo, Igor!!! |

A model of Leonardo daVinci's wooden bicycle design made following drawings from his sketchbooks. While the drivetrain is amazingly like that of today's bikes, changing direction would seem to be a bit problematical. |
